Serbia will have five construction waste processing plants in five regions by the end of 2027, announces Mira Radenovic Bojic, the state secretary of the Ministry for European Integration, in an interview for Bloomberg Adria, as reported by the competent ministry.

– In the next two and a half years, Serbia will get a developed system of management and treatment of construction waste. The facilities will be located in the Pirot and Srem-Macva regions, Subotica, Uzice and Valjevo – announces Radenovic Bojic and adds that the value of the project is EUR 7.5 million, of which EUR 5.5 million is financed with the funds of the European Union.

In addition to five regional facilities, says the interviewee of BBA, as soon as next year, the realization of the procurement of mobile grinders for the grinding and processing of construction waste in Novi Sad, Nis, Valjevo, Sombor, Smederevo, Indjija and Kragujevac, will start.

– These cities produce, according to some calculations of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, between 24,000 and 52,000 tons of waste a year. We have already started the realization, and it is up to the cities to secure and equip certain infrastructure – she points out.

In short, if everything goes as planned, the gravel, the worn-out wooden materials or concrete, instead of being sent to an illegal landfill, will be immediately put into the processing facility, following which it will be turned into a new construction material.

– The idea is for the majority of that waste to be used. The estimate is that 75% of the content of construction waste is in fact soil excavations, which can be used, after being recycled, to cover landfills or for farm roads, and that around 12-25% are construction materials (rubble, concrete, tiles) and the rest is wood and metals – she points out.
