Serbia increases exports by 1.4% in first four months of 2024, imports by 1.3% – Biggest surplus with Montenegro and BiH, biggest deficit with China

The export of goods and services from Serbia increased in the first four months of 2024 by 1.4%, and the imports by 1.3%, expressed in euros, announced the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. The overall external trade in that period amounted to EUR 22.249 billion and was 1.3% higher compared to the same period in 2023.

In the first four months, the value of exports amounted to EUR 9.779 billion, and the value of imports amounted to EUR 12.470 billion. The deficit amounted to EUR 2.691 billion, which was an increase of 0.7% compared to the same period last year.

The export - import ratio, as said, equaled 78.4% and was higher if compared to the same period last year when it was 78.3%.

The largest share in export of Serbia was noted in the Vojvodina Region (33.8%), and the greatest share in import of Serbia was noted in the Belgrade Region (43.4%).

The external trade in the reference period noted the highest level with the counties with which Serbia has signed agreements on free trade. European Union member countries account for 61.1% of total external trade.


Observed by countries, the largest surplus in the external trade was gained with the surrounding countries – Montenegro (exports of electricity and retail trade medicaments and imported were electricity and dried meat), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (exports mostly related to gas oils and motor oil, and the most imported are electricity and lignite).

The greatest deficit marked the trade with China (due to imports of phones for network stations and laptops).
