The factory of the Austrian company Palfinger, whose construction in the Industrial Zone “East” in Nis started in September last year, has commenced test production activities, and regular production will start next month, stated the company’s representative Ivan Tasic.

According to him, the opening of the factory in Nis is planned for the end of this year.

– The factory is in the final stages of construction. Most of the machines are there, but some are yet to arrive. We already now have close to 80 employees, which is in line with our plan, which envisages us having 375 employees by 2027 – stated Tasic.

He said that Palfinger produced cranes and that, in Serbia, it would produce steel sub-assemblies.

– One of the first projects that we will realize are stabilizers for trucks and means of transport. That is the initial project, and I believe that, in the very near future, the range of products will be enriched by new projects – said Tasic.

He pointed out that Palfinger operated in most European states and that Nis had been selected for the construction of the new factory thanks to its good traffic connections with Croatia, Slovenia and Bulgaria, where factories of that company already existed, and because Nis had its own university and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The mayor of Nis, Dragana Sotirovski said while visiting the facility that less than a year had passed from the moment the company sent the letter of intent to the city authorities to the laying down of the foundation stone.

– In the past four years, five investors have arrived to the city of Nis. Palfinger is the next to last one, the latest one is Ariston. In the past 10 years, direct investments in Nis are worth more than a billion euros – emphasized Sotirovski.

According to her, thanks to the arrival of the investors, the number of the unemployed in Nis has reduced from more than 20,000 to 17,000, whereas the number of employees has increased to 100,000.

She said that the industrial zone in which the Palfinger factory was located was nearly filled out, and that the city would therefore, in order attract new investors, equip the industrial zones “North 1” and “North 2” with infrastructure. On the occasion of the laying down of the foundation zone, representatives of Palfinger announced that they would invest EUR 34.5 million in the factory in Nis.

The agreement on the awarding of the subsidies envisages for the investor from Austria to get EUR 4.6 million from the state budget for the factory in Nis.
