Belgrade-Zrenjanin-Novi Sad highway - What is being planned on a route over 100 kilometer long?

The road section of the highway leading from the Belgrade district of Ovca, via Zrenjanin, to Novi Sad is a branch of the primary road network of Serbia that should make the existing long-distance travels on this main road faster and more efficient.

The project involves the construction of a complete profile of the highway, between Ovca and Zrenjanin (Section 1 - length 67.67 km) and Zrenjanin and Novi Sad (Section 2 - length 35.75 km), with all necessary road facilities and level crossings, as well as about two kilometers expressways through ​​Novi Sad. The construction of an alternative road route Zabalj Novi Sad is also planned, according to the Novi Sad Architectural and Construction Institute, in charge of the project organization.

As part of the highway route, following ring roads have been designed: Petlja Ovca, Petlja Glogonj/Jabuka, Petalja Kovačica, Petalja Orlovat, Petlja Ečka, Petalja Zrenjanin zapad, Petalja Zabalj.

Two parking lots and two rest areas are planned along the route.

Together with the highway route, adjacent facilities were also designed, i.e. constructions on interchanges (overpasses), bridges in the trunk of the highway, overpasses, culverts and passages for minor local roads, overpasses for the crossing of state roads.


As for the larger bridges, two bridges over the Tamis River, one bridge over the Tisa River, and a bridge over the Begei River stand out.

Total length of the alternative road Zabalj-Novi Sad: 25.35 km
