The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and the chairman of the Management Board of the company CRRC, Liu Changqing, today signed the Protocol of Understanding and Cooperation on the procurement of nine new electric trains for speeds of up to 120 km/h.

After signing the document at the Government of Serbia, Vesic said that the procurement of said trains aimed to modernize the rolling stock of Srbijavoz for the needs of transport on the future Zemun Polje-Nikola Tesla Airport-National Stadium railroad and the connecting of the Belgrade center and the surrounding settlements with the specialized exhibition EXPO 2027 (a future line of the city rail system, BG Voz).

He explained that those trains would be produced at the factory of the company CRRC (Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd) in China and that they should be delivered by December 31, 2026, at the latest.

According to him, the new electric trains, which will be adapted to all EU standards, will lead to an increase in the quality of transport in Belgrade.

– The competent ministry has recognized that CRRC is one of the world’s leading companies in the production of train engines, cars, electric and diesel engine trains and other rail vehicles for both the Chinese market and other markets and it wanted to use their big experience in Serbia as well – the minister said.

He underlined that Serbia was ready to use their big expertise in the transport sector and ensure an adequate transfer of knowledge as support to local development, including the improvement of rail traffic in Serbia and the accompanying industry.

In line with that, as he said, in the past period, a range of meetings has been held and all the preparatory activities have been realized with representatives of all the interested parties regarding the signing of said protocol.

Changqing underlined that the signed document was another confirmation of Serbia and China’s active implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative and their deepening of the pragmatic cooperation.

The signing of the protocol was attended by the assistant minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Anita Dimoski, and the acting director of Srbijavoz, Ivan Bulajic.
