In Serbia, Number of Employed 500,000 Higher Than in 2012, More Foreign Workers Too
This was said at the opening of the Job Fair in Dimitrovgrad by the minister of labor, employment, veteran and social policy of Serbia, Nikola Selakovic.
Selakovic said that, at the job fair as well, it was noticeable, despite the growth of the number of the employed, that some professional profiles were missing – craftsmen.
He said that the 502,000 newly employed workers contributed to an increase in the budget funds and a higher gross domestic product (GDP), which contributed to the construction of highways, fast railroads, schools, hospitals, the creation of jobs and the opening of factories.
In the past 11 years, according to him, a serious step forward has been made when it comes to employment, especially in the time of a “demographic regression” – a drop in populace numbers in the entire Balkans, Serbia included.
He said that, in 2023, over 37,000 work permits had been issued to foreign nationals for working in Serbia, not just on big projects, but on other jobs as well.
– That number will grow – Selakovic estimated and said that we shouldn’t only think about how to bring workers, “but also pay attention to the measures of population demographic policy that our state offers, and which are several times higher than they were 10-11 years ago.”
He expressed his conviction that, with the political stability and peace, the possibilities for a substantial number of citizens to return to work in Serbia would be created.
