According to the information of Playstudios Europe and the Serbian Games Association (SGA), the growing gaming industry in Serbia employs around 2,300 professionals and earns around EUR 125 million a year. Prominent companies, of which there are around 130, claim that they have a consistent need for new employments. The European average of women in the gaming industry is 22%, whereas the percentage of 30% places Serbia first.

– At Playstudios Europe, we have also exceeded the local trend of employing women in the gaming industry, which is by far the most progressive one in Europe. We have 63 women working here, which amounts to an enviable 32% – says Nikola Mitic, the general manager of Playstudios Europe.

– Whereas most of our female colleagues in Playstudios Europe do design, conceptual art, QA testing and project/product management, we believe that it is important to incite young women to develop engineering careers through internship and employment. Finally, 63% of mobile game users worldwide are women – he adds.

The SGA says that domestic games have been downloaded or purchased over 370 million times, and in terms of genre, the local production is dominated by RPGs at 19%. Also, they say that the industry of mobile phone games additionally grows with the increasing popularity of the so-called “casual” games (18%), which are meant to be fun, simple and easy to install.

– The gaming industry is not just entertainment. In the long run, this kind of production stimulates other similar industries, such as cyber security, blockchain, artificial intelligence, cloud and e-commerce, so this cooperation opens a space for women in other related industries as well – Mitic explains.
