Ministry of Internal Affairs: Do Not Open Attachments in Emails Alleging There Are Procedures Against You Regarding Pedophilia and Other Criminal Activities
These malicious mails, which were sent from a Google server, contain PDF attachments in which unknown persons are signed underneath these messages, falsely presenting themselves as heads of administrations or unit commanders at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, says the website of the ministry.
Also, these messages require the recipient to respond to the received email within a set deadline and threaten procedures at the prosecutor’s office or making the alleged pedophilic activities public in case the recipient doesn’t do so.
Some of the recipients of said mails are the Zitiste library, the Veljko Vlahovic community in Zrenjanin, the Magistrates Court in Cacak, several schools throughout Serbia, social welfare centers, but also a large number of private persons.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs appeals to all potential recipients not to open the attachments in such mails.
Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Department for Suppressing High-Tech Crime and Sector for Analytics, Telecommunications and Information Technologies, in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, Special Prosecutor’s Office for High-Tech Crime, are working to identify the perpetrators.
