Mayor of Nis Darko Bulatovic said that the preparations for the construction of the waste water treatment facility were going according to plan and that the international tendering for the contractor should begin by the summer of 2019.

– There will be two tenders, one for the waste water treatment plant itself and the other for the construction of the collector and the necessary sewer system sections – Bulatovic said at a meeting with representatives of a delegation of the EU and the Swedish Embassy.

He said that the City of Nis closely followed the dynamic work schedule and that the city services were primarily engaged in expropriation activities at the moment.

– The entire process of expropriation will be finished by the end of the year. It practically means that, of the 600 expropriation decisions that need to be passed, 500 have been completed so far. By the end of the year, the remaining 100 should be done – Bulatovic stated.

Bulatovic said that the project was worth EUR 60 million and added that EUR 45 million would be provided by the European Union through its funds and that the majority of the remaining amount would be provided by the state, whereas the city's contribution will be the smallest.

He reminded that the Swedish International Development Agency financed the preparation of the project documentation and that it had previously financed the feasibility study for the construction of the plant and the missing collectors, the reconstruction of the existing collectors and the construction of a part of the sewer system.

The first secretary of the Swedish Embassy, Ida Reutersward, said that the Swedish International Development Agency would finance the construction of the waste water treatment plant in Nis within the “Paid” program.

Ida Reutersward said that it was one of the most important environmental projects in Serbia and added that the preparations for the realization of one such big project had been carried out throughout the year.

She said that the embassy and the agency were very satisfied with the city's efficiency in securing conditions for the preparation of the construction of the waste water treatment facility.
